Humana Medicare Advantage members get in-network access to University of Louisville doctors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Humana's Medicare Advantage members now have in-network access to about 600 University of Louisville doctors in the region, University of Louisville Physicians and Humana said Friday.

The announcement of the agreement, effective Oct. 1, was delayed because of the government shutdown, said Diane Partridge of U of L Physicians. No one at the government's Medicare office was available to approve the press release, she said.

Partridge says the agreement means new access to U of L doctors, whereas Humana's Medicare Advantage had to pay out-of-pocket to see them previously.

Here is the release:

Humana Medicare Advantage members will have access to a larger network of health care providers in the city they and the health and well-being company call home – Louisville.

University of Louisville (UofL) Physicians, the largest multispecialty practice group in the Louisville area, and Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) announced today an agreement to provide in-network access to UofL Physicians for Humana's Medicare Advantage Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) and Private Fee for Service (PFFS) members, effective Oct. 1, 2013.

The agreement covers UofL Physicians' more than 600 primary care and specialty doctors across all hospital systems in Louisville and Southern Indiana, including University Hospital, Jewish Hospitals, Norton Hospitals, Kosair Children's Hospital, Baptist Hospitals, VA Medical Center, Kindred Hospital, Clark Memorial, and Floyd Memorial hospitals. UofL Physicians also has more than 100 office locations throughout the Kentuckiana region.

"Humana is fortunate to be based in a city that has a plethora of quality health care options," said Dan Maltese, Regional Vice President of Senior Products for Humana of Kentucky. "We are excited to work together with UofL Physicians to ensure our home state members' medical needs are addressed to help them maintain their health and well-being."

"University of Louisville Physicians is excited to continue to grow our relationship with Humana," said Becky Lamb, Vice President of Contracting and Credentialing for UofL Physicians. "We are pleased that we will be able to provide care to Humana's Medicare Advantage PPO and network Private Fee for Service members as participating providers."
