LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- October is designated as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we're highlighting one way women can take charge of their own breast health through a unique screening. The breast heat signature is almost like a fingerprint, it really doesn't change unless there is a problem. BRAS Thermography is a breast health screening using a highly sensitive camera."The camera will detect what's coming off of your body so there's no radiation theres no pain or compression or anything like that it's completely non-invasive," said BRAS owner, Chip Gilmore. The screening takes about 10 to 15 minutes and you can see the pictures right away. Then they are sent to a medical doctor who will read and interpret the results.Gilmore says, "The amount and type of inflammation is one thing that will tip them off, they are looking for asymmetry in the breast."It's best to pair thermography with your annual mammogram."I think this is a good way to give yourself a feeling of my body is ok there's no cancer there," said thermography patient, Sandy Truax.Thermography is not recognized by the American Medical Association, but is a great tool. BRAS is offering free thermography demonstrations for our WDRB viewers. For more information, you can reach BRAS Thermography at (502) 895-1224.Copyright 2013 WDRB News. All Rights Reserved.
