LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Waterfront Park in Louisville is receiving some national recognition. On Wednesday morning, the park was presented with the Rudy Bruner Silver Award for Urban Excellence.
The award is given by the Bruner Foundation out of Massachusetts to recognize urban places and their social and economic impact to a city.
The park attracts a million and a half visitors each year. Waterfront Park was once an industrial area filled with aging warehouses and piles of sand and scrap.
As Anne-Marie Lubenau of the Bruner Foundation explains, "What we heard consistently through our visit here was the role the park plays in bringing the community together, bringing people together who might not otherwise be together in the community to play, to enjoy the waterfront, to get some exercise.
Waterfront Park is getting $10,000 as part of the award.
