LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Authorities say a prisoner escaped from a Metro Corrections van and tried to make a quick getaway, but corrections officers got to him first.
According to an arrest report, 31-year-old Ryan Paul Mussler was already in police custody on a burglary charge when he was riding in a Louisville Metro Department of Corrections van just before 1 a.m. Wednesday. Authorities say Mussler used a handmade pick tool to unlock his wrist and ankle restraints.
When an officer opened the van door, Mussler allegedly bailed out of the vehicle and attempted to run away.
Police say an officer ran after Mussler and "took him to the ground." A scuffle ensued as Mussler allegedly tried to resist arrest, and the officer's pants were torn.
Mussler was eventually taken into custody and charged with escape, fleeing and evading police, criminal mischief and resisting arrest.
Mussler cost the officer a $60 pair of pants, according to the arrest report.
