LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Childhood obesity in Kentucky ranks third in the nation.
Saturday morning people took a step toward defeating the disease.
A local and well respected physician and fitness expert, Dr. Louis Heuser, says, "Not acting on this problem now will result in obesity being an even greater health concern in the years to come."
The third annual "Walk to defeat Childhood Obesity" was held on Saturday, November 2nd.
Several businesses, including Humana, joined together to bring awareness to the community.
Some supporters believe obesity boils down to the old saying "you are what you eat."
Participants at the event were there to help families choose healthier foods and how to cook them properly.
An increase in exercise and physical activity are critical parts to a healthy lifestyle.
The Louisville Urban League sponsored the event, which was at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.
Tents were set up with kid friendly activities.
Proceeds from the walk will fund Wellness grants to qualifying schools in the area.
