LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Once again, John Calipari got his man. Trey Lyles, a top-10 prospect in the Class of 2014, did the expected on Tuesday and committed to the University of Kentucky.
The top-rated power forward in his class by Scout.com, Lyles gives UK once again the No. 1-rated recruiting class in the nation, according to Scout recruiting analyst Evan Daniels.
Just as sweet for Big Blue Nation, the victory came over the University of Louisville, a relative late-comer to his recruitment after he de-committed from Indiana last summer.
U of L coach Rick Pitino had made a surprisingly strong push, and the Cardinals were the only other team among Lyles' finalists. But in the end, Calipari's record of sending players on to the NBA with great dispatch proved too much to overcome.
"Just because of coach Cal's record with players like me," Lyles said. "What he's able to do with guys such as myself, getting us to the stage we want to be at, which is for me the NBA. I want to be an All-Star and he's had a lot of guys who have been able to step up to that stage and be All-Stars in the NBA. His overall pitch to me was just perfect. I think it's going to be the best situation for myself."
More to come from Trey Lyles. This story will be updated.
