LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - The No. 5 Louisville women's basketball team defeated Pikeville 127-40 in exhibition play on Tuesday afternoon in the KFC Yum! Center. Redshirt senior Asia Taylor made good on her return to the court, leading all scorers with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Eight Cardinals finished the game scoring double figures.
Shawnta' Dyer was second on the team in scoring with 14 points and freshman Emmonnie Henderson finished with 13 points and eight rebounds. Sisters Jude Schimmel and Shoni Schimmel each finished with seven assists. Brittany Swindall led Pikeville with nine points and seven rebounds, while Jayme Jackson and Brogan Conley chipped in six points each.
Louisville started the game with a 24-0 run, holding Pikeville scoreless for the first six minutes of the game. Pikeville's Christin Haney broke the scoring drought with a 3-pointer. The Cards led 43-9 with seven minutes remaining then got hot from the 3-point line for a 15-0 run.
Louisville finished the half with a 67-14 lead. The Cardinals hit 6 of 12 from behind the arc in the first half and shot 59.1 percent from the field. UofL held Pikeville to 20.8 percent shooting in the first half and had a slight 20-19 advantage on the boards.
