Jefferson Co. residents can make appointments to receive heating help

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- As colder weather approaches, many people will have a hard time paying their utility bills.

Thursday, Friday, and Monday, Jefferson County residents can make appointments to get help through LIHEAP -- the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program.

Low-income residents can receive anywhere from $40 to $150, which is paid directly to the utility provider.  With recent nationwide cuts to food stamps, many people such as William Neely say they need this assistance:  "Other than the food stamps I'm buying, you know, it just says 'butter' or just says 'bread.'  You know, I don't buy name brand stuff  I get my clothes at more cost-effective places instead of name brand."

To schedule an appointment, residents need to bring a picture ID and a recent heating bill to the Urban Government Center.
