Flying car demonstrated in Simpsonville

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It's not a bird or a plane, it's a flying car!  On Friday morning, the car called the Maverick took off over a Simpsonville farm.

Only five of the vehicles exist, and they're in three parts of the world.  They are designed to address a need in missions and humanitarian work.  The ATV type-vehicle drives on roads, and then can fly over impassable areas.

As Troy Townsend of Indigenous People's Technology explains, "The controls in the Maverick use the same control to drive it as to fly it, the steering wheel and the gas pedal, it's very easy to transition someone in to flying the Maverick."

The flying car runs on regular gas and costs $94,000.  The company is working on taking the flying car to Ecuador, countries in Africa, and Indonesia.

It's now on display at Southeast Christian Church's Blankenbaker Campus for the Global Missions Health Conference.
