1,000 flags placed at Eastern Cemetery to remember our veterans

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB)---One thousand flags are now honoring our veterans in one of Louisville's oldest cemeteries.

On Sunday, the organization 'Friends of Eastern Cemetery', decorated the cemetery with American flags, and 5 Confederate flags.

They were placed on the graves of veterans from various wars.

Volunteers say Eastern Cemetery was abandoned in the late 80's, so the organization does it's part to help restore it.

"It's horrible. It's heartbreaking. The more and more you come, and the more and more you see progress that we're making, you want to come back and do more," says Genie Thompson, a volunteer.

Volunteers regularly rake leaves, cut grass, and on Sunday, placed flags to make sure our veterans are not forgotten for Veteran's Day.

They say it's the least they can do to thank these veterans for their service.
