Handguns, accelerants found in Jeffersonville death investigation
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Jeffersonville, Indiana's fire chief says someone used an accelerant to fuel the flames of a house fire in which a young couple was shot to death.
Firefighters were called to a house fire on Starview Court Saturday afternoon. They found 26-year-old Morgan Julius and 27-year-old Courtney Grimm dead in the bathroom.
Police say it wasn't the fire that killed them -- the pair died of gunshot wounds. They will not say if someone killed the pair, or if this was a murder-suicide. "As far as any concerns of anybody that we're looking for, we don't have any concerns that anyone else is in danger at this point in time," said Det. Todd Hollis.
Police say the couple started dating less than a year ago, and have lived together in the house for about six months.
Morgan Julius is the son of Jeffersonville city council member Dennis Julius. He released this statement on Facebook this morning:
"I would like to thank all of the Jeffersonville police and firefighters for their compassion and professionalism in our family's hour of need this weekend, as well as so many friends who have extended their love, support, thoughts and prayers."
Det. Hollis says, "It's tragedy all the way around, both families are in shock, both families are distraught as anyone would be in this situation, and of course they have questions that we're trying to get the answers to them the best that we can."
Scott's Funeral Home in Jeffersonville is handling funeral arrangements for Courtney Grimm. Funeral arrangements for Julius are still pending.
