CHICAGO (WDRB) -- The University of Kentucky's loss to Michigan State in Tuesday's State Farm Champions Classic was a ratings winner in Louisville.
According to overnight ratings provided by The Nielsen Co., the final 15 minutes of UK's 78-74 loss to the Spartans drew a 25.9 rating 35 share in the Louisville market -- roughly equivalent to 174,000 households.
The entire ESPN telecast averaged a 20.3 rating, 28 share, and was easily the prime-time ratings winner in Louisville Tuesday night, beating out NCIS on CBS (14.6/20).
The University of Louisville basketball team, going head-to-head with UK in a blowout win over Hofstra on WHAS, drew a 12.2 rating, 17 share (about 82,000 households). The peak audience for U of L was a 13.9 rating and a 20 share.
The nightcap of the State Farm Champions Classic, with Kansas beating Duke, drew a preliminary 8.1 rating, 14 share.
These ratings are for the Louisville market only. Other Kentucky markets are not metered by Nielsen, and overnights are not available. All numbers are subject to final revision.
