LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A young family and three other people got out alive after a Jeffersontown apartment fire.

It happened near the intersection of Six Mile Lane and Breckinridge Lane around nine Thursday morning.

The fire was in the bottom floor of a six-unit apartment building.  The only occupant of the apartment, along with six others, showed signs of smoke inhalation -- including one infant and two toddlers.

Three adult women were taken to the hospital to be treated.

Buechel Fire Chief Rick Harrison explains, "One family was upstairs. The mother, father, and three children were in an apartment above the fire apartment, they were assisted down by the resident from the fire apartment."

The Metro Arson team is investigating.
