Southern IN celebrates "Nouveau Day"

STARLIGHT, In. (WDRB)--The production line down in the cellar at Huber's Orchard and Winery is kicking into overdrive. Employees are filling the last of some special bottles, sticking labels to them, and sealing the corks. They're getting ready for one of their biggest days of the year, "Nouveau Day" or New Wine Day.

"It's the Thursday before Thanksgiving, that's when we celebrate it," Lise Kruer of Huber's Orchard and Winery said.

"Nouveau Day" is a French tradition celebrated internationally including in Southern, Indiana. Its name suggests what it's all about.

"It's kind of a duel meaning, we're not just releasing it for the first time, but it is new. It's fresh," Kruer explained.

2 new wines will be released this week at Huber's including "Pop's Reserve," with Henry Huber on the label.

"It follows a very old family recipe. I knew him only by pop, not by great grandpa, grandpa or anything like that." Ted Huber said.

"Christmas White" is also coming out this week. Preparation to make the flavors started all the way back in the summer at the Starlight vineyards, but if you're a drinker of either Pop's or Christmas White, you'll need to down it a lot faster than the time it took to make it.

"This is a wine that you would not put in your wine cellar, and let age for a few years. It's bottled young, and meant to be drank young," Kruer said.

The new wines are not available until Thursday, November 21st.
