SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Shelby County dispatch says crews responded to two accidents on I-64 East, both around the same area.
Chief Ronnie Sowder from the Simpsonville Fire Protection District says the first accident was a one vehicle, non-injury rollover that happened around 7 a.m. near mile marker 26 close to the Jefferson-Shelby County line.
Simpsonville and Eastwood Fire and Rescue were responding to that accident when Eastwood Fire Truck 7745 was rear ended by a passenger vehicle.
The vehicle's two male passengers were taken to University of Louisville Hospital with critical injuries. The three firefighters were transported to Baptist East Hospital for observation.
The accidents caused I-64 East to shut down while authorities responded, but was reopened just after 9:30 a.m.
