New Albany school corp. denies bed bug 'infestation' at high school

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The New Albany-Floyd County School Corporation says there is not an infestation of bed bugs at New Albany High School, contrary to unsubstantiated claims rampant on social media and in complaints to local news outlets.

But, in an unusual audio message emailed to parents Monday, Bill Briscoe, assistant to the superintendent said the school has addressed individual cases.

"We have used a pest control company to give us advice upon inspection and to confirm that we do not have an infestation," Briscoe said.

New Albany High School has been the subject of social media speculation alleging a "widespread" infestation of bed bugs in recent weeks.

Briscoe, in the audio message, calls such talk "erroneous."

The school corporation posted the message and its bed bug response policy on its website.  Read it here:
