LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man and his girlfriend are accused of shoplifting items from local merchants and returning it for gift cards.

Christopher Hazen was arrested after police say he and his girlfriend, Krystyna Eubank, stole more than $33,000 worth of merchandise from several stores.

Police say Hazen admitted that he and Eubank would return the merchandise to stores in exchange for gift cards and would then sell the gift cards.

The couple is accused of selling almost $20,000 worth of gift cards illegally.

Authorities say Hazen admitted that he committed the thefts to support a heroin addiction.
