LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The pile-up of deer carcasses on Interstate 64 has been cleared.

Maintenance crews had dumped about 20 deer in the median in Shelby County earlier this month.  Officials say since it's deer season, workers had been picking up two to three deer carcasses a day.

Last week, crews dug a hole and buried the deer so they can decompose.  Crews covered the deer with hydrated lime to aid in the process and to help with the smell.

Police say it serves as a warning for drivers to be on the lookout for deer.
