Spreading holiday cheer to local senior citizens

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- When you're out shopping this holiday season, why not throw a few extra items in your cart? It's that easy to play Santa to a senior this Christmas.

Many senior citizens don't have the proper funding to celebrate the season the way they would like.

The 'Be a Santa to a Senior' program puts presents under the tree local senior citizens.

"We take different lists of clients around the area from different facilities who may otherwise be overlooked this holiday season," said I'ieshia Gordon, program coordinator.

Participation is simple, grab an ornament from the Christmas tree and add one or all of the items to your shopping cart.

"Some of the things are as simple as a pack of socks or a pair of gloves maybe a $5 sweater, put that in there because that $5 you spend towards that senior makes a big difference in their lives for the holiday season," said Gordon.
