LMPD has a plan to avoid a traffic nightmare Friday night

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Between Light up Louisville and U of L basketball Friday night, thousands of people will be trying to get out of downtown at the same time -- but LMPD has a plan to get everyone out safely.

Festivities for Light up Louisville take place all afternoon.  But the main attraction is when Santa arrives at 8 p.m. and shortly after the switch is flipped as the main event for Light up Louisville.

U of L tips off at 7 Friday night at the KFC Yum Center.

Police say both crowds will be leaving at the same time.  As LMPD Lt. Andrea Brown describes it, "Traffic will be diverted northeast and south where drivers can jump on I-65 or I-64 east or west. We will have traffic officers to guide motorists to expressways."
