Smithers family devotes home to Christmas decorations and holiday village

Posted: Updated:

George Smithers and his family have been collecting Christmas themed scale model buildings and figurines for years to add to his Holiday village.

The village flows into every room of their home in the Shawnee neighborhood.

This year the Smithers family wanted to share their Christmas display with other people rather than just family and friends.

Keith Kaiser recently spent the morning with George taking in the more than 74 pieces in the display.

This does not include the decorative trees, miniature people and animated pieces.

The display is roughly 12' x 4' with two teirs and two small levels that make up a third teir.

The scale model train is a "Northern Lights ON30" that runs on the bottom level.

The Christmas Village is a mix of Saint Nicholas Square collectables.

The Santa Scene, The North Pole series and The Christmas Story are from Department 56.

Plus you can't miss the animated Santa collection.

Some of them have been around for 18 years.
