SAINT MATTHEWS, Ky. (WDRB) -- People are "roughing it" in this cold weather to ensure they cash in on early holiday deals. They say they are ready to camp until they shop.

Workers say tents have been outside Best Buy in Saint Matthews for more than a day.  Those who have been camping outside for the past several years say the weather is the worst they have seen it.

Campers like Carmen Thompson say they even have friends come with cars to give them a short break to warm up.  She and her friends were in the fifth tent in line Tuesday morning. Thompsons says they set up camp at 1 p.m. on Monday.  The Louisville mother says she and her girlfriends do it for more than just the deals on TVs, laptops, smart phones and other gadgets.

"We huddle up together, we chat, we talk," said Thompson.

"It's a bonding experience," Thompson said. "But once the doors open, though, it's on. We are going in, getting our stuff, getting out and going onto the next place."

Thompson says they do it mostly for their children who "just want electronics."

After camping out in the wet, cold tents, Thompson says they do not mind doing it, even if they will not keep all their finds.  She says they do not mind being called a little crazy.

"Everyone thinks it's crazy until the day before, and then they want to give you their list. It is a little nuts but it's fun too," said Thompson.

Best Buy officials say they will start handing out tickets for deals to those in line at 4 p.m. Thursday.
