Air Force major from Lou. greets family from Kabul Thanksgiving dinner

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Soldiers deployed away from home enjoy the Internet, cell phones and other means to stay in touch with their families -- much more so than their predecessors in times of lesser technology.

Yet the appearance of U.S. Air Force Maj. Bob Geary in a Fox News affiliate news service feed  helped him to send a personal message home to family in Louisville and southern Indiana Thanksgiving night.

Geary was interviewed for a Thanksgiving dinner story at NATO headquarters in Kabul, Afghanistan.  He joined fellow airmen and soldiers for dinner, then spoke on camera.

"I just want to give a shout out to my lovely wife, family, my kids Evan and Katelyn, all the Gearys there in Louisville, Kentucky my friends and all my family in southern Indiana.  Love you, miss you, eat lots the turkey from me, and I will see you very soon," Maj. Geary said.

It was not clear from the Fox News feed to WDRB News whether the video originated with the Dept. of Defense or the news organization.

Nearly 47,000 troops are still stationed in Afghanistan.  But many will likely go home next year as part of the troop drawdown.
