LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Holiday fun means big business for two local ice rinks.  Both opened today, offering options on both sides of the river.

Whether you're an experienced skater, or trying out the ice for the first time, all are welcome at the Jeffersonville outdoor ice rink at the corner of Spring and Market Streets in Jeffersonville, Ind.

"I just like having fun out here," said Olivia Shelton, a skater.

The rink covers the space of a parking lot. It's the third year operators have decided to cater to a holiday crowd. During its first season the rink brought out more than 10,000 skaters and 25,000 visitors to downtown.

It's welcome news for neighboring downtown businesses and restaurants.

"It's very popular," said Sarah Craft, the special events director for the ice rink. "The community loves it, so we're excited to bring it back again."

"Every year we look forward to it all year long," Shelton said.

In Louisville, the synthetic ice rink is back at 4th Street Live! for a second year. That means skaters can try out a double axle or sowcow, even if temperatures rise above freezing.

It will cost adults $5 to skate here for an hour, $3 for children. A season pass option is available.

In Jeffersonville, skating costs $8, but you get a discount of $2 off if you bring your own skates.
