LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A Chinese restaurant called The Joy Luck is planned for the former Kashmir Indian Restaurant space in the Highlands.

"We are going to aim for authentic dishes not offered anywhere else in Louisville," said Alvin Lin of AJ Investment Group, the family company behind the planned restaurant.

AJ Investment filed paperwork with the Louisville Metro Revenue Commission on Nov. 26 to operate a full-service restaurant at 1285 Bardstown Road.

Lin, a Lexington native, said he and his parents plan to open the restaurant in January, with his father serving as chef. They are working on a menu and logo, he said.

The Joy Luck will offer duck dishes cooked in three different styles: Cantonese, Taiwanese and Beijing, Lin said. Entrees will be in the $14-$18 range with an emphasis on local ingredients, he said.

Lin, a 24-year-old University of Kentucky graduate, said his family has operated long-closed restaurants including August Moon and Ming Garden in Lexington and Asian Pearl in Louisville. Asian Pearl was on Hurstbourne Parkway and closed in the late 1990s or early 2000s, he said.

Kashmir had been in the space at 1285 Bardstown Road for a decade before moving two doors up the street to 1277 Bardstown Road following a fire in 2010, according to a review last year in Leo Weekly.

MJW Inc., which owns 1285 Bardstown Road, took out a building permit in 2011 to make $70,000 in upgrades following the fire. Lin said his group has signed a lease with Marian Wilbers, who is listed in state records as the sole person behind MJW Inc.

A man who answered the phone Monday at the Crescent Hill address of MJW said Wilbers would have no comment.
