LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A student carrying BB gun for a theater class forced a lockdown on the Indiana University Southeast campus Thursday afternoon, according to university officials.
The school's website reported a sighting of an armed person on campus around 2:45 and suggested that people shelter in place. Campus police and New Albany Police kept anyone from entering or leaving campus, and began a building-by-building search.
Shortly after that search began, officials issued an all-clear after locating the student with the BB gun. University officials later said the student brought it to use as a prop for a theater class.
IUS spokesperson Erica Walsh tells WDRB News, "We do have procedures in place for something like this, and it took less than an hour, around 40 minutes for us to put an all-clear out, so I think we handled this about as well as we could have handled it." She stressed that people on campus are urged to report anything they see that might be suspicious.
