LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- University of Louisville women's basketball player Antonita Slaughter's career is on hold while she recovers from the cardiac arrest that led to her collapse Tuesday night during a game against Missouri State at the KFC Yum Center.
That's according to U of L Coach Jeff Walz, who says a blood clot later discovered during testing started that cardiac event. Slaughter will be on blood thinners for six to seven months, and that means she is out for the rest of the season.
Walz says Slaughter is still in the hospital waiting to see a cardiologist, but could be released later Friday. He says he has not investigated a medical redshirt yet for Slaughter.
The game halted for a few minutes Tuesday night as Slaughter was attended to and taken off the court on a stretcher. Play resumed afterward.
