Dueling Panera Bread locations? New restaurant planned for Hurstbourne Parkway
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Panera Bread cafe is in the works for Hurstbourne Parkway -- directly across the street from an existing Panera Bread.
Jefferson Development Group, led by Louisville developer Kevin Cogan, wants to build a 4,300-square-foot Panera Bread with a drive-through lane at 500 S. Hurstbourne Parkway, according to a plan on file with Louisville Metro Planning and Design Services.
The new restaurant would be across the street from the Panera Bread at 601 S. Hurstbourne Parkway.
JHS Vinings, a real estate company controlled by Papa John's International founder and CEO John Schnatter, owns the land where the new Panera is planned.
Aaron Thompson, who manages JHS, deferred questions to Jefferson Development -- which, plans to buy the parcel from JHS.
Jefferson Development's Brian Evans said his company is working with Panera Bread on the new location and directed questions about the existing restaurant to Panera's corporate office.
The project is on the agenda for a hearing of the Metro Planning Commission's Land Development and Transportation Committee on Thursday.
The proposed Panera would be part of The Vinings, a commercial development backed by Schnatter at the former site of the Williamsburg Plaza office park on Hurstbourne. The development will also include a Granite City Food and Brewery, Business First reported in May.
