McDonald's owners donate $140,000 to children's charities

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Local McDonald's owners donated more than $140,000 to children's charities on Monday.

They donate four cents from every Happy Meal and Mighty Kids meal to Louisville's Ronald McDonald House.  The money goes to give needy families some food, a place to sleep, and even shampoo and clean bed linens.

Ronald McDonald House has a 36-bedroom facility to help those families.

Hal Hedley of Ronald McDonald House Charities explains, "We're able to provide a home away from home for over 5,000 family members of seriously ill kids, regardless of their ability to pay."

Besides helping Ronald McDonald House, some of the money also goes in grants to other local charities that support children's health.
