LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - A committee will decide Wednesday if the Derby City will get to host any NCAA championship events over the next 4 years. Louisville is a finalist for hosting 13 events, more than any other city.
More than 500 host sites submitted bids. Events include the Division I Women's National Volleyball Championship, Men's Division I Wrestling, and a host of men's and women's cross country championships.
"It starts with facilities in terms of the arenas and the hotel infrastructure, hospitality infrastructure," says Karl Schmitt of the Louisville Sports Commission, "then its comfort level very much based on success of hosting events in years past and then a lot of times its relationship based and we have all those parts in place."
Wednesday at 1pm, the NCAA will announce which cities will host 82 championship events.
