RAYWICK, Ky. (WDRB) - High above rural Marion County, in the knobs of Raywick , Elmer George and David Daugherty ride around in a four wheeler. They're not there to have fun, they're there to check out a new business interest they've recently tapped into.
"It's very exciting to say the least," George said.
They're drilling for oil, and a quite a bit of it. The idea to drill in Raywick didn't come out of nowhere.
"This real estate is located near Green County by the way the crow flies, where we had the big oil boom in the 60s," George explained.
There were stories from friends about oil in Marion County too. George and company sat on those stories till the time was right, and then they decided to go for it.
"It was sitting here, and everybody knew it was here, but nobody thought it would be as good as it is," Daugherty said.
So far he and George say it's paid off, and they plan to continue to grow their operation. Neighboring property owners are getting their drills too.
"I hope there's enough oil here to benefit everybody in Marion County," said George.
The only obstacle ahead, waiting to see if the oil continues to flow.
"So they are hopefully long term producers," Daugherty said.
