LMPD pursuit of burglary suspect results in crash

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- LMPD officials say a police pursuit of a burglary suspect resulted in an injury crash involving an officer.

Around 6 p.m. Wednesday evening, police say an officer matched the description of a stolen vehicle on Preston Highway and called other officers for backup. Officials say the officers then engaged in a pursuit of the suspect, who had a warrant on first-degree burglary charges.

Police say the suspect, 26-year-old Michael James Brown then side-swiped a police car on Norene Lane in Newburg, causing the stolen vehicle to roll over.

The suspect was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries, and an officer was treated at the scene by EMS.

Brown is also charged with wanton endangerment, DUI and receiving stolen property.

LMPD officials say they are reviewing the incident to determine if the officers followed the policy for pursuing suspects of violent felonies only.
