LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say they arrested a man after he left his 1-year-old child alone in a car while he left to visit a liquor store.
The alleged incident happened on Thursday just before 10 p.m. on S. 34th St. near Louis Coleman Jr. Drive.
Police say they saw a silver Mazda van parked in that location, with a 1-year-old child in a car seat behind the driver's seat.
The car was running and the child was by himself, police say.
A few moments later, police say they saw 22-year-old Deonte R. Maddox -- the boy's father -- walking toward the vehicle. Police say Maddox admitted that it was his vehicle and told police he had asked another man to watch his child while he was in the liquor store.
But when asked how he knew the man, police say Maddox couldn't even tell them his name -- only that he had "seen him around."
Police say they asked the man, and he confirmed Maddox's story.
Nevertheless, police arrested Maddox and charged him with permitting a motor vehicle to run unattended and endangering the welfare of a minor.
