LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Metrosafe officials say the I-65 northbound ramp to I-64 westbound is closed indefinitely.
After further inspection and analysis, engineers of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet have determined that repairs are necessary on a support column for a ramp in the Kennedy Interchange. The ramp that carries traffic from I-65 North to I-64 West will remain closed until repairs are completed.
Transportation officials say one of the columns supporting the ramp has a crack in it and needs to be inspected. Concrete is chipping away from the column near the crack and the rebar underneath the concrete is exposed.
A driver noticed the concrete deteriorating and called to report it.
"They saw concrete deterioration which you see. It's cosmetic. There's more deterioration than they've seen in other piers so to be safe, we want to get a good handle on what it is," said Andy Barber, project manager with KYTC.
Officials say the Department of Transportation will inspect the ramp Saturday morning, which will determine how long the ramp will remain closed.
An alternative route for motorists would be I-65 north to I-264 west to I-64.
