Indiana Dept. of Transportation closes down several highways

Posted: Updated:

SEYMOUR, Ind.—The Indiana Department of Transportation has shut down more than 20 state highways in southeastern Indiana because of high water levels.
Crews in the Seymour district are patrolling roads and posting high water signs and closing roadways as needed.

Officials are advising motorists against attempting to drive through standing water.  Statistics suggest that the majority of flooding deaths occur in automobiles. Authorities say six inches of standing water is enough water to stall a car; twelve inches is strong enough to float a vehicle.
