Kosair Children's Hospital dedicates part of $24.5 million renovation

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Improving care to the tiniest patients: that's the goal of renovations to the neonatal intensive care unit at Kosair Children's Hospital.

The dedication was held Monday afternoon.

Improvements include enclosing patient areas so parents can have privacy while they spend time with their infant.

NICU nurse, Michele Flowers, knows just how precious that time is after giving birth to triplets prematurely, and losing one of her sons.

"We took our family picture of all three of us," she said. "This is the only complete family picture we have, and it's thanks to the nurses in the NICU because, just three days later, Caden lost his fight. Exactly three years ago today, Caden Michael was laid to rest."

This is the third phase of a five-part, $24.5 million renovation project.
