Jeffersontown home heavily damaged in early morning fire

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Jeffersontown home was heavily damaged by fire early Thursday morning but we're told everyone got out safely.

The fire started just before 4:30 a.m. on Old Heady Road just east of Routt Road.

Fire officials tell WDRB that the fire started on the first floor of the home and spread to the second floor.

Fern Creek Deputy Fire Chief Rob Storrie says everyone got out safely.

"People were home, from what I understand," Storrie said. "They smelled smoke awhile earlier, was investigating and finally saw the fire and called us."

One side of the house suffered heavy damage. There's no word yet on what may have caused the fire.
