Woman briefly trapped by smoke in Newburg house fire

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- No injuries were reported after a house fire in the Newburg area Friday morning.

The fire was reported around 8 a.m. at a house on Revere Drive near Appliance Park.

When crews arrived at the home, they found one woman in the front doorway, and another woman who couldn't get out of an upstairs bedroom because of the smoke.

Fire crews say that woman had shut the door to the bedroom to keep the flames and smoke out, and had opened the bedroom window.

Okolona Assistant Fire Chief Kyle Brown tells that was the safest thing to do.

"There was too much smoke in the hallway for her to come out," Brown said. "She probably would have succumbed to the smoke had she come out of her bedroom and tried to exit the structure. So it was the best thing, she did the right thing, went in shut the door and stayed in her bedroom."

Four fire departments responded to the fire and got it under control in just a few minutes.

Crews aren't sure what started the fire.
