LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Chane Behanan has been dismissed from U of L's basketball team for violation of University policy.
Rick Pitino made the announcement Monday at a 12:30 p.m. news conference.
Behanan apologizes in a news release:
"I want to apologize for letting down my family, teammates, coaches, Tom Jurich, this university and the Louisville fans," Behanan says in the release.
In a Tweet attributed to Behanan, he wrote: "I will forever miss this place."
Behanan was suspended for a month in mid-October.
During Monday's news conference, Pitino says he doesn't see Behanan returning because he was dismissed by the university. Behanan can still attend classes at U of L during the second semester.
According to a tweet from Bozich, Pitino says Behanan will then have two choices: transfer to another school or get a trainer and start preparing for the NBA.
WDRB Sports columnist Rick Bozich says Pitino told reporters Monday that the rest of the team "does not have the problems that Behanan has."
Behanan did play during Saturday's game against UK, but was scoreless. Pitino said he was distracted because "he knew the hammer was about to fall."
