LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Homeless shelters across the area are also preparing for the cold weather.
Nina Moseley, with Wayside Christian Mission, says that Operation White Flag has been going on for the last few days.
They are making sure they have extra mats for people to sleep on, pillows, linens, and food.
They also have a Samaritan Patrol, where they go to viaducts and homeless campsites, to try to get people inside.
They say this came about after a homeless person froze to death back in 1988.
"Many of them have heart disease, they have respiratory problems." Moseley says, "Of course the danger from frostbite is eminent. Many of them have diabetes, so it's very important to get these people inside."
If the homeless refuse to come inside, they are leaving them with items, like blankets, coffee, sandwiches, socks and gloves.
They're encouraging people to notify them at 584-3711 if you see someone in need during this winter storm.
