CDC declares flu is widespread in Kentucky

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - The flu is widespread throughout Kentucky. The CDC has increased the state's flu activity from regional to widespread, which is the highest possible level.

This means flu-like activity or outbreaks are currently in at least half of the state's regions.

The CDC reports that about 23,000 people die each year from the seasonal flu.

For those interested in flu shots, it takes approximately two weeks for the vaccine to become fully effective.

The flu season lasts until May.
