High-end apartments planned for Lexington Road

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Three apartment buildings containing a total of 343 units are planned for Lexington Road across from Headliners Music Hall and Distillery Commons.

The site, at 1373 Lexington Road, backs up to the middle fork of Beargrass Creek and is currently home to a vacant warehouse.

Cityscape Residential, an Indianapolis development firm, filed plans with Louisville Metro Planning & Design Services on Monday to change the land's industrial zoning to allow for the apartments.

The buildings will be four, five or six stories tall, depending on the site's topography, according to Cityscape's application.

Most of the units will be one or two bedrooms – with a few studios – and the rent will range from $700 to $1,600 a month, said Kelli Lawrence, a Cityscape partner.

"We anticipate being towards the top of the rental market in Louisville," she said.

The complex's amenities will include a pool with a grilling cabana, a "high-end" fitness center and a club area with a coffee bar and "cyber café," she said.

Plans show two of the apartment buildings up against Lexington Road and the third set back closer to Beargrass Creek. Each building will have a ground-floor parking garage, but the structures will also be surrounded with surface parking lots.

Lawrence said the company hopes to begin construction by the fall. Cityscape will buy the land following plan approvals and serve as its own general contractor on the project, she said.
