While everyone else offers their opinions regarding the new head football coach at the University of Louisville, I'd like to talk about the one who just left.
As far as I'm concerned, Charlie Strong was a home run hire for the Cardinals four years ago. He took over a program that was declining rapidly and immediately supercharged it with a new kind of discipline, great recruits and a work ethic that produced ever-improving records and three bowl victories.
Success like that, coming at a low point for the program, was a gift every U of L fan should cherish. But some have instead chosen to turn on Strong and accuse him of disloyalty for leaving to take the head coaching job at the University of Texas. And that's just wrong.
Yes, Jurich did finally give Strong a shot at a head coaching position after he was mysteriously passed over for so many others. And I'm sure Charlie will always be grateful. But expecting Strong to pass up further opportunities for himself and his family simply because Tom Jurich did the right thing when so many others wouldn't is unfair.
Jurich hired Strong because he thought he was right for U of L. Strong proved him correct. Now Strong wants to do what's right for him. Who can argue with that?
Charlie Strong wasn't just a winner. He was an honorable winner. And he deserves our continuing respect.
I'm Bill Lamb, and that's my Point of View.
