LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Bullitt County's fiscal court passes a ban on smoking in county buildings. It will take effect in a few weeks.
The 4-to-1 vote Wednesday night means the county ban will supersede an overall smoking ban passed by the county health department more than two years ago.
That ban is now being challenged in the state supreme court, on grounds whether the health department had the authority to enact it.
Magistrate Joe Laswell was the lone vote against the ban in county buildings. He said about a dozen people spoke for and against the ban in county buildings during a specially-called fiscal court meeting that lasted about an hour.
The new ban covers all buildings owned and leased by Bullitt County government. It was not clear what effect the new ban will have on the supreme court challenge.
