LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A reward is being offered after two whooping cranes are shot in Kentucky.

At right is a picture of the two cranes who were tracked with radio transmitters.

The first was found near Pond River on the Hopkins - Muhlenberg County line in November. The crane had to be euthanized.

The remains of its mate were found in December about five miles away.

Fish and Wildlife officials believe they were shot in the same incident.

There are less than 500 whooping cranes living in the wild in the U.S.

A $7,200 reward is being offered in this case.
