Julius Randle (30) and his teammate James Young are two of nine contenders for the nation's top freshman in college basketball.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Another day, another college basketball watch list -- this time with plenty of Kentuckiana flavor.
This time the list is for the nine freshmen named to the mid-season watch list for the Wayman Tisdale Award. It is presented annually by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association to the nation's top freshman at the NCAA Final Four.
Two Kentucky players are on the list -- forward Julius Randle and wing James Young. Indiana freshman center Noah Vonleh was also recognized. Kansas also has two guys on the list -- Andrew Wiggins and Joel Embiid.
The four other freshmen to watch are Syracuse point guard Tyler Ennis; Duke forward Jabari Parker; Arizona forward Aaron Gordon and Louisiana State forward Jordan Mickey.
The winner last season was Marcus Smart of Oklahoma. Kentucky's Anthony Davis was named the Tisdale winner two seasons ago.
