LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) --Being an American Idol is "the dream" for millions, and a Louisville native is well on her way. Brandy Neelly impressed American Idol judges Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, and Harry Connick Jr. this past week with her rendition of "Wanted" by Hunter Hayes.
Hollywood is the next stop on the show.
"It's kind of nerve-wracking," she said.
Neelly took some time to come back home to Louisville to visit family, watch the show, and chat with WDRB. She gave Chris Sutter a little insider scoop on the judges.
"JLo is sweet as she can be, Keith is funny, and Harry is so charismatic and awesome," she told Chris.
She also talked about how her Louisville roots, and southern charm could separate her from the rest of the pack.
"I really appreciate the simple things like family and laughter," said Neelly.
She has auditioned for the show since she was 15. Each year ended in disappointment.
"You're going to be sad. You're going to want to cry, especially being young, it was extremely disappointing because you think this is my time," she explained.
But, it only takes one year to make it happen.
"She's a determined little thing. She has a lot of guts," her mom, Cheryl Neelly said.
And who knows, this just might be the year when that persistence pays off, because when you've got talent like Brandy, it doesn't take long to transform from Louisville girl to American Idol.
