LOUISVILE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Pop! Pop! Pop! Keith Kaiser celebrates Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day with a few mascot friends and the folk at the Laughing Derby.
Monday, January 27th marks the 14th annual Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day.
Keith offered up some fun challenges with his guests and the many uses of Bubble Wrap.
In 1957, in Hawthorne, New Jersey, engineers Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes sealed together two shower curtains with air bubbles intact and tried to sell it as textured wallpaper.
The idea was a flop.
Then they tried to market their creation as greenhouse insulation. Didn't take off.
In 1960, IBM needed protective packaging for delicate electronics and they had the perfect material.
The Sealed Air Corporation was founded and Bubble Wrap was born.
