Indiana officials consider requiring prescriptions for cold meds

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - An Indiana legislative panel is considering a bill that could require a prescription for cold medication.

The bill would give local governments the option of making cold medications containing pseudoephedrine, an ingredient used in making meth, a controlled substance that requires a prescription.

A House committee heard three hours of testimony Monday morning, but did not vote on the bill. Supporters say it would help police combat a meth epidemic.

Those against the bill say it is an intrusion on the lives of those seeking care for colds and allergies.
