LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Hemp production now has a better chance at making a comeback in Kentucky.
Kentucky lawmakers passed a bill last year to allow industrial hemp production -- but only if the federal government lifts its ban.
Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell says the final version of the federal farm bill is ready to go. It will allow limited hemp cultivation in states that allow the production, and state agriculture departments would oversee pilot hemp projects.
Kentucky's Ag Commissioner is in favor of bringing hemp farming back. The U.S. House and Senate will have to vote on the bill.
